Thanks for all the help so far. I have successfully disabled the
trackpoint both with and without the keyboard shortcuts. The external
PS/2 mouse now works. I couldn't find a 3 button logitech and had to
settle for an optical roller thingie/acts like 3. I was all set to poke
around under the hood, ok, well to think about poking around.
As it turns out, a few blasts of compressed air seem to have done the
trick,
at least for now. I'm a little embarrassed and hope this isn't too good
to be true. If it acts up again, I'll know what to do this time.
