I bought one of those also. I have the same sound. I called IBM
they had me do all kinds of tricks and couldn't find the problem.
They tried to talk me into putting up with it till it breaks and then
sending it in under warrenty. I don't think it's the hard drive because
the hard drive is on the left close to the screen. The noise sounds
to me like it's on the right side away from the screen. What I did
was asked to return it within the first 30 days. I then bought an
A31p. I did like the 30gb hard drive on the A31 because it was
totally silent. I now have a 60gb drive that isn't bad but I can hear it
like a normal drive. I wish I would have gotten two 30gb drives
instead of the one 60gb drive.
