I have heard from many sources that you can burn out something by plugging
or unplugging a PS/2 mouse with the power on. If you want to plug in the
mouse without rebooting, put the machine into standby first.
To fix the problem you mentioned, go into the BIOS setup on your A21p (press
F1 when it prompts you at the IBM logo screen). Select Config, then
Keyboard/Mouse. Change the TrackPoint setting from AutoDisable to Enabled.
Now you will be able to boot up with a PS/2 mouse attached, and both the
mouse and ThinkPad will work.
