The voltage should be exact, but you can always replace a power supply with
one that has a higher amperage rating. A 16V, 500A supply would work fine
and be perfectly safe!

The amperage rating on a power supply tells you the *maximum* amount of
current it can provide safely. It doesn't mean it is somehow going to force
that much current into the device it's powering. The amount of current
actually used is determined by the voltage and the device being
powered--whatever it draws, that's what the power supply will provide, until
you draw too much power and overload the supply.

Obviously, a ThinkPad will draw various amounts of power at different times.
When it's on standby and the battery is fully charged, it may draw very
little power. Put the display on full brightness and get both the CD drive
and hard drive seeking back and forth (e.g. copy a data CD onto the hard
drive), and it will draw a lot more power.

Yes, the A/T series power supply is 16V, 4.5A, so there is never problem
using it as a replacement for a 16V, 3.36A supply.
