Thanks to Bill Morrow for his off-list help.
The answer, as contained in the HMM (Hardware Maintenance
Manual) tpvol2.pdf
(at the moment
ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/mobiles/tpvol2.pdf
but as we all know, IBM reinvents its web presence frequently)
is that ERR 93 means ... nothing
but that FRU 6014 means
60 - reseat HDD - HDD-1
14 - lower system board
In this instance I checked to see that everything was seated
correctly and that no pins were bent, but no improvement.
With each try at this, I'm suspecting more and more an
electrical incompatibility between the 701C and the VME
CF-carrier.
