What kind of death did your disk suffer? If it won't spin up, or there
was a head crash, then you probably won't be able to do anything
(although there are commercial firms that can do recovery of seriously
dead disks for large amounts of money). If you had some sectors go bad,
and the disk won't boot, but still spins, you might be able to get some
of the data. If you just want to get some additional use of the disk
and aren't worried about the data, you could try a low level format.
