Hm. Pull the card immediately after it has been recognized, don't put it back in until after you've successfully rebooted?
I've had funny results with 3com cards - I think they assert the interrupt when they shouldn't, hanging the 730.
Then again, some 730s seem to have better-behaved pcmcia slots or interrupts than others do, too[!], so if you have a second machine, try it on that.
