600e Battery Dead?

Hi,

My old 600e that my parents now have seems to have a battery problem.
The system has been used on AC for the majority of its life. Battery
life was short but acceptable for minor use during the last year. Last
week the power in their house went out for 45 minutes. Since the power
came back on the battery/power light has been flashing orange
continually. If they remove AC power the system dies immediately.

Is the battery gone completely or is there something that I can do to
test or revive it? If it is dead, is there a source for reasonably
priced replacements?
