I've got no experience with WIN98 on a 486 but I can report that WIN98SE
slowed my Pentium 90 desktop (at least it wasn't a pentium 75) down to a
crawl.
Then I installed WIN98 lite <http://www.litepc.com/> and it became much
livelier.
I wanted WIN98 for the USB support, if your computer doesn't have USB
you'd probably be better off with WIN95.
I would recommend WIN98 lite if only for the pleasure of un-installing
Internet Explorer (see how easy it is Bill?). You can also omit the HTML
engine if you so desire.
