OK, we've talked about EZ Serv problems before, but this is
I think different from anything I've heard before on this list.

My wonderful A30p developed a video memory problem last
week. I delayed sending it it 'till early this week so as not to
be without it on the weekend, at least in theory.

I shipped it off, verified that IBM had it yesterday and found out
that it came back to my work place in the morning. It was a
busy day so I didn't get to it 'till evening.

I happily opened the box and there was my thinkpad, along
with a note which I will give the first few paragraphs of:

"Your IBM ThinkPad is being returned to you unrepaired, due
to the presense of an offensive of biological hazard.

Upon initial inspection of your ThinkPad at IBM's EZ Serv
repair depot, out technicians found that your ThinkPad was
delivered to IBM containing an offensie or biological hazard.
The presence of this hazard prevents IBM technicians from
performing repairs on your system."

I AM STUNNED. There is no odor on my ThinkPad, nor does
there seem to be any evidence of chemicals on it. I immediately
called IBM, and got a useless person who could only say that
there was a "problem" with it and could say no more.

I was refered to another 800 number which was equally
useless, though the woman there did follow up with an email
since I had to leave for the commute home.

Tomorrow I will be calling the 800 number that I got in email
and I will attempt to figure out what;s going on here.

Has anyone *ever* heard of this? Does anyone know what
IBM's EZ Serve does to "inspect" ThnkPads for chemicals?
How do you prove that your ThinkPad does not contain
offensive or biological contaigon? It occurs to me that if Franz
Kafka had been born in our time I could see this being the subject
of one of his stories...

Right now I am so disgusted that I can hardly type straight.

ps: more tomorrow as it develops
