For reference five years ago I paid US$62.50 for one from somone
on this mailing list. It still works fine by the way. Let me know
if they've gone up - it's not often I get to feel like my computer
hardware investment is appreciating in my favor, heh heh..
I use this at work (making tv shows). Just recently I tried
"moving up" to USB adapter (Eskape Labs) but the delay through
the device due to processing/encoding/etc is substantial. I
haven't tried to measure it but it is many frames - at least
15 or about half a second. So then I tried a Fire Wire device
(Formac) which is much zippier but still late enough to be
distracting. In looking around I did find one company in
Canada that claims <100ms (around 3 frames) delay for about
US$500. The full blown commerial stuff that does this is way
too expensive tho.. The problem here is I get the sound from
another source so I'd like the picture to at least be close..
Just something to be aware of - in the analog world any delay
is too short to even notice...
