Jeff, (drumcorps??? As in DCI?)

I recently did this with an A30p and found the same problems (ie which
files to retrieve from the online matrix.) There seem to be redudant
files.

Nevertheless, as recommended (probably unofficially) by someone at IBM
help center, make a copy of your IBMTOOLS directory. Many of the drivers
will run or are intended to run, on Windows 98 as well as NT, XP etc.
It will at the very least give you hints as what driver goes to what
device.

You may also want to call the help center and request the CD's that we
should have gotten in the first place, that will restore the hidden
partition and it's original software install files.

Good luck. You should be able to accomplish this fairly smoothly.

Dave

Subject: [Thinkpad] Installing Win98se on A31p and R31

I'm going to install Win98se (retail CD) on a new A31p (2653R3U) and an
R31 (2656L1U). I downloaded the 98se install instructions & device
driver matrix files from the IBM website, skimmed the readme files, and
I'm confused as to the exact list of files to install. If anyone has a
comprehensive file list and proper order for installation I'd appreciate
the info... it would save me a considerable amount of time.

Also, what is the difference between installing in ACPI mode vs
installing with the command line: "Setup C:\Win98\APMINST.INF" ?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff Johnson
