Hi,
This concerns the apparent failure of Infrared connectivity on my IBM Thinkpad T30 running Windowx XP Pro (SP 1).
I've always used the built-in IR port to synch my Palm Vx almost daily
until a month ago when I relocated. After the relocation, I haven't been able to get T30 to connect with any IR devices
Symptoms:
When I place the Palm (have also tried with a Nokia cellphone) near to
the IR port of the Thinkpad, the IR device detected sound doesn't play and
the corresponding "IR Device Detected" icon in the system tray does not appear. However, from
time to time the icon would suddenly flash on and off in the System Tray with
the event sound in the space of a few seconds.
What I've done:
After a series of trail and error fiddling with the settings in Device
Manager as well as the BIOS, I have ascertained that the IR port set to Serial B
(Com 2) and it is enabled in the BIOS. In Device Manager, I see only "IBM Thinkpad
Fast Infrared Port" listed under "Infrared Devices" and under "Ports (Com &
LPT)", both COM1 and LPT1 are listed. I have also tried setting different value combinations for the "Transceiver A", "Transceiver B" and "Maximum
Connect Rate" for the IR device but to no avail.
I'd appreciate any help to help resolve this puzzling problem.
Regards,
John
