Just telephone them and see what happens. I replaced two PCMCIA cards (a modem and an ethernet card) without problems a few years ago. I don't believe that either of these had lifetime warranties and I didn't have proof of purchase, but in each instance the time since the product had first been introduced did not exceed the warranty period so 3Com had no problem.
Internet registration of 3Com products makes warranty repairs. About this time last year I purchased a model of wireless Airpoint that either was about to be or had just been discontinued and registered my new purchase. In about August, the antenna broke and I obtained an RMA from 3Com, the representative merely checking the online registration (btw, I was surprised that 3Com returned a new [more expensive] model rather than my repaired Airpoint or a reconditioned one of the same model).
