I recently updated my ThinkPad 770X with a DVD drive and
a Margi DVD-to-Go Card.
The OS is Windows 98SE. I updated the TP770X Video Driver
to the latest version (IV) ftom the IBM site.
I also installed the latest Margi DVD-to-Go MCI driver
(2.18) from the Margi Site.
I ran into the following problem after the installation
of these drivers:
Error #261 "Unable to load C:\MARGI\DVDTOGO\MARGIVPM.DLL
[Error= -261]".
Solution: The VPM (Video Port Manager) driver is not loaded
or an OLDER version which is not compatible with our
current drivers.
The Margi site advises to:
"... contact the notebook manufacturer or the display
adapter's web site for the latest driver."
I did not find any reference to a VPM (Video Port Manager)
driver at the IBM or Trident sites. I did find a VPM
driver for the TP770X Trident Cyber9397 at the site:
http://www.yoko.com.tw/vpm.htm
Installation of this VPM driver enabled the video on
the Margi DVD-to-Go card.
However, video playback now has a blue line in the video
(right side). According to the Margi DVD-to-Go Release Notes, the
" ...Trident 9397 blue line in the video (right side)"
was fixed in v2.08 of their MCI driver.
The Margi DVD-to-Go Release Notes also advises to use:
" The latest Trident driver (VPM0016) is now supported.
Earlier Trident VPM will not work properly.
If you have a Trident VGA contact Trident
to get the latest VPM driver."
My questions are:
1. How do I determine the release level of the
Trident VPM driver that I am currently using?
2. Where do I get the latest Trident driver (VPM0016)
for the TP770X Trident Cyber9397?
Please help.
TIA, Steve
