OK, but let me tell you a story. My 560X had been booting up into a black
screen, even pre-OS; only a couple of taps of the Fn-F7 combination would
turn the screen on. I assumed something at the BIOS level, possibly a
failing CMOS battery. This had been going on for several months, and
driving me batty (I did post about it here, with no answers...)

A few weeks ago I put a larger drive on the machine, and while I had the
thing open I decided as a precaution to reseat every cable I could find in
the case:
among others, this meant reseating the video cable onto the system board.
Fixed the black screen problem entirely!

This seems very similar to Edward's problem: blanking on boot independent of
OS, can be fixed with pushing something on the KB,...so, *could* be a bad
(or just barely improperly seated) cable.
