Peter,
About USB vs card-in-a-desktop: I tried a USB Orinoco unit on my
desktop, and was getting shutdown troubles with Windows 98 (despite all
the available fixes), so I got a PCI adapter for the PC Card and plugged
that in instead - and was very surprised that I was getting just about
identical range as I did with the USB unit. Very counter-intuitive, but
apparently true.
