Paul,

I haven't done exhaustive testing on it, but I can tell you what I
have observed.

I have a mini-PCI Actiontec built into the X23. Additionally, I have
three PC cards: a Linksys, an SMC, and a Cisco. My WAP (a Linksys
WAP11 "upgraded" to 100 milliwatts) is on the second story of my house
in a fairly central location. Using the on-board Actiontec, I get
full-speed connectivity on all floors of the house, including the
basement. Using any of the PC Cards, including the Cisco, I get
full-speed connectivity everywhere except the basement where my
office is located. In the basement the connection speed drops very
rapidly, with the Cisco a little less sensitive than the others.

If I walk out on my back deck, all cards perform at full-speed. As I
walk further from my house, all of the PC Cards eventually drop off
with the Cisco being the last to fail. The mini-PCI card is still
running at full-speed at the end of my driveway, about 250 feet away.

It's not the cards, its the great antennas IBM has built into the X23
screen casing. That's why I wanted to replace the current mini-PCI
with a Cisco. I would get all the advantages of the Cisco card and
client while retaining the advantages of the built-in antenna.
