Ok. This may be the culprit and I thank you for
emailing me personnaly with the info. Since disabling
the polling option on network card music plays as it
should. I've been listening for the last couple of
hours and not a burp or hiccup. I figured it had to
be something polling the system because it was
consistent every 60 and 65 seconds. That polling
ruins your viewing and listening pleasure. I also
noticed my Aquarium Screen Saver (came with Plus! for
WinXP) even displays consistently now where before,
the fish would jerk for a split second. Now they
don't.
I'll try playing a DVD later on for the final
assessment.

I'm on Russian Hill (94133) but it was taken so I went
with our business zip just four blocks away and 'down
the hill'.

LOL! WinXP Pro doesn't have a single device manager
program per se. Apparently earlier versions of WinX
products do. I've never used a Microsoft product
before this WinXP system. I had problems expressing
this to IBM Help Desk when the tech person told me to
open the device manager in the control panel and check
the version level of my sound driver. I read off all
of the icons in that directory and he suggested the
"sound and audio devices" folder.
Rather then go the conrol panel route with your advice
above I knew Hhidden in the task bar sit my network
connections so I checked their property listings and
found the box enabled for network polling. Disabled
it and now music plays as it should. (THANK YOU!)
Again, thanks for the advice. The "guru" moniker fits
you nicely. Not even IBM Help Desk mentioned it could
be a network card polling problem.
