Everything I've read says it's not long term stable. So ok for short term
backup, not ok for archiving or keeping critical data.

DVD-R is under $1 per disc, and nearly 4.7GB per disc. External USB 2.0
burners are around $300, maybe less.

CD-R is under 40 cents per disc for high quality gold media, and nearly 700MB
per disc. External USB 2.0 burners are around $100, maybe $30 more for a
DVD-ROM combo drive.

The backups can be read on any computer.
