I mailed Heiko off-list about this, and it turns out he's found some
answers -- he asked me to post his reply here.

I have the same modell (it is the cheapest X30;-)) and it has no
antenna. But you can buy one from IBM. The antenna has the part number
27L6745 ("Antenna assembly for X30") and costs ca. 20,- Euro. But it has
some metall parts that fit directly into the outside of the display. So
you also need a "LCD cover kit 12.1-in. with antenna for X30 series"
(part number 27L6741). Costs ca. 60,- Euro. You can find these
information and some graphics in the X30 service manual (92p1288.pdf).
There are two problems: (1) you will loose IBM's guarantee if you make
the modifications yourself and (2) the cover kit is not in stock and
will take 4-8 weeks to deliver...
In the meanwhile I have found a compact flash WLAN card from SMC (EZ
Connect SMC2642W) that is really tiny and works fine. So my PCMCIA-slot
is still free and I a have a very comfortable and cheap WLAN-solution.
Maybe you can forward this mail to the Thinkpad Mailinglist for other
X30 users. I have already left the list as there was no answer to my
question an no further information of interest for me.
Best wishes,
Heiko
