Hi guys (And several gals, bored housepets and the occasional illegal
alien). I recently ran into some problems with a faulty DC/DC board that
caused intermittent power failures on my TP560. I am pretty sure that it
is a cold solder on the DC/DC Board side of the hard connector, since
when I push on the DC board after the machine is disassembled the power
will wink on and off. This is, of course, extremely aggravating. I
replaced the DC/DC board with a spare that I have, and now it is otherwise
working properly. The power feeds into the battery and she'll take AC,
but the problem now is that for some odd reason, APM is giving me bad
readings on battery status. It'll report battery status in the 90% range
intermittently (Fuel will display 90%, with a time estimate of 8:88, and
then the fuel gauge will show a blank in the battery charge) and the
Win95 taskbar battery gauge disappears. I am trying to nail down a
probable cause for this problem. I am inclined to blame Windows 95...but
somehow the DC Board I swapped in looks suspect as well. What should I
blame first, and how would I tell for sure?
