[Thinkpad] 600X Floppy Issue

Thanks for the suggestions about the CF thing. It still
doesn't work, but I'm just giving up. I can live with
serial transfer until I upgrade my digital camera.

Anyway, since that whole fiasco, I've noticed that if I
have my floppy drive in its external bay and boot the
Win98SE disk, all is wonderful.

If I put the floppy in the UltraSlimBay, it won't boot.
Not all the way, at least. It finds that HIMEM.SYS is
missing or corrupt and goes downhill from there. Running
PC Doctor shows that any track after 44 has problems when
in the UltraSlimBay, but again all is fine in the external
floppy bay.

It seems like I have to overcome more friction when
putting the drive in the internal bay, so I'm thinking
some padding is pressing on the drive, making the last
half of the disk unreadable because of head positioning.

I'd appreciate it if some of you 600/600E/600X owners
could try this out and let me know if you have problems
or not. My warranty expires this June, so I'll probably
call IBM about this anyway, but I'd like to know if it's
common all the same.

Many thanks,
Chris
