I am in the process of upgrading an A21e (celeron 700) to an A21P with a new system board (12P3291) and a micro-PGA PIII 850. I am using the A21e's existing 1024x768 screen. I work on Thinkpads from time to time, but mostly replacing parts on a one-for-one basis, so this one has me stumped.
Everything works (will boot into Windows, correctly displays processor speed, cooling seems adequate, etc.) - EXCEPT that the LCD only displays a compressed image in the lower left third of the screen, rather than a full screen image. This is not a driver issue, as it occurs before on POST right after power-on before any drivers are even loaded. It is also not a dead LCD, as I just watched it work with the other motherboard and the same sub card.
Again, I am using the 1024X768 XGA 15" screen from the A21e. I have noticed that there are no A21ps with this resolution, but shouldn't The Rage Mobility 128 be able to adjust for that? I am using the sub card from the A21e, which I figured would work since the screen is the same (am I wrong on that, and if so, would an A21P sub card which is presumably designed to operate a 1600X1200 screen work with the XGA screen?
I may have to just get an A21m motherboard, but I only have a few bucks in the A21P board, EVERYTHING else works, and I would really like to keep the better video card if possible. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Neal
