First of all you can try FDISK to delete the partitions.
NEXT
Download the Drive Fitness Test from the IBM web site.
Run it
It will test the drive.
If the drive issues an error message, you can run ERASE from that floppy to
totally wipe the drive and start again.
It is about the most powerful hard drive tool available.
Note: all these are destructive, and you will need to do a restore
