Adding one more to the heap of answers:
The freeware program manager 2xExplorer
http://www.netez.com/2xExplorer
has pretty good tools for on-the-fly directory synchronization.
Nikos, the author, claims that he is so paranoid about losing
his data that he backs up every 10 minutes. So of course he
included efficient tools for synchronization in his program
manager.
I've used this for a couple of years, and in general I prefer
it to M$oft Explorer. I know that isn't saying much, but it is
something!
