[Thinkpad] Charging Palm from USB?

Hi,

Does anybody know if charging a Sony Clie handheld from the USB port on
an X21 is ok? Sony's standard charger uses a wall wart, but third
parties sell sync/charging cables that draw power from the USB port.
The Clie must not need much power to charge OTOH, USB ports can't supply
much power... Are these USB charging cables safe and effective?
