I just got my laptop back after having had a new system board installed.
Everything seems fine except the unit serial number in the bios is blank. I really
need to have that in there because we have several of these units where the
sticker on the bottom has peeled off for become damaged and unreadable. Without
having the unit's serial number in the bios we are really screwed if we have
to send it back in for a warranty repair. Without that info, they can;t help
us at all. Even though we purchased extended warranties on all of these units,
without that info they can't look up warranty info. Is there anything I can do
short of sending it back to IBM and having them inpout the number? I have
searched some of the IBM tech support documents and they make reference to a CE
Utility program that will allow you to input this info. I can't find the
utility itself anywhere on the IBm site or anywhere on the web. Any ideas? I really
can't afford to have the laptop out of commision for another 3 or 4 days while
I ship it back, have them fix it, and have them ship it back to me. There's
got to be a better way.
