It would be wise to borrow a battery or just get one. The reason for
requiring a battery is to protect the machine from any power system
disturbance during the bios upgrade. E.g., someone could hit the pole with the
wires feeling your house. A lightening shot a 1000 miles away could trip a
1000MW unit and bump the power at your place at the instant you are loading
the bios, etc.

The result of these things can be; No More ThinkPad!
