This peeling was a known problem on the 770s, and maybe some 600s too,
but it wasn't terribly widespread. IBM has changed the material and
doesn't seem to have the problem anymore on newer models. Short of
buying a new housing I don't think there is an easy remedy. As for the
keyboard, that is probably pretty easy and cheap to replace.
