Jim,
The 770 most certainly does have an Ultrabay (called Ultrabay II,
actually). I've owned a 770 and the 2nd HDD adapter. The Ultrabay
supports the CD drive, floppy, 2nd HDD adapter, extra battery, DVD
drive, PDA connector, and even external numeric keyboard. Here's proof
of the existence and function of the Ultrabay in a 770:

Why would Michael need the 2nd caddy? Because he stated that he wanted
to be able to use both the old drive and new drive at the same time to
transfer files. That means the extra caddy is needed to use the new
hard disk in the 2nd HDD adapter. The 2nd HDD adapter accepts either
770-style or 755/760-style hard drive caddies.
