Ultrabay is IBM's name for a multi-purpose bay on their laptops. It can
hold many things,
ranging from batteries to hard disks to removable media, etc. Some
ThinkPad models use the same format of Ultrabay, but IBM tends to
reconfigure the bay every time it makes a new generation. There is the
Ultrabay, Ultrabay II, Ultrabay2000, Ultrabay Plus, UltraSlimBay and
maybe others. If they have a different name they are not interchangeable.

Yes, you need multiple things: The bare 2.5" hard drive, a drive caddy
(little metal box or tray) to adapt the drive to your laptop model, and
the Ultrabay 2nd HDD adapter, which fits the caddy-enclosed HD into the
Ultrabay. If you're uncomfortable ordering on-line then, by all means,
find a local dealer. If you're willing to try on-line, what you are
looking for is: standard 2.5" laptop hard drive, ThinkPad 770 hard
drive caddy and ThinkPad 770 Ultrabay II 2nd hard drive adapter. These
last two items are very specific. If you find someplace that lists them
with those descriptions then you should get just what you need. If you
want additional confidence purchasing, then contact Bill Morrow from
www.thinkpads.com and he should be able to set you up with everything.
He's a long-time list member who knows the stuff.
For reference, here are some web pages on the items:
