[Thinkpad] T40 Supervisor password

Hello all,

my friend is having problems with his T40, if you call it problem :o)).

He forgot his supervisor (SVP) password and now it is impossible to start
the OS. In IBM manual only solution for that is to change motherboard and,
of course, it is not includded in warranty.

Is out there any other option or hack to reset this password? It will save a
lot of money to my friend.
Anyhow in two days laptop is going to IBM service centre.
