Hi,

I have just got hold of a Thinkpad 600E (2645-8A0) with a dead hard drive and battery.

I am trying to update the BIOS so I can add a 256MB SODIMM. I have no floppy drive and no working battery.
I have burned a CD with the BIOS floppy update, which boots fine. I assume I can update the BIOS from a CD? The update software doesn't try anything weird like try to write to the floppy?

Anyway, I did try the update, but it won't work because there is no working battery. Having spent a fair deal of cash in getting a new TravelStar 40GNC, a 128MB and 256MB SODIMM, I'm reluctant to also pay out for a new battery yet as they are very expensive, are apparently flaky, and I want to have a running system before I decide whether to pay for one.

So, is there a way of applying a BIOS update with no battery, and just the AC connected?

Thanks,

Neil.
