[Thinkpad] Extra battery for the old ThinkPad 600

Hi list,

I have just exchanged a dead battery in my notebook and it performs
very good! Claims to last for 3 hours.
I'm afraid, however, that when this new battery dies, I will not be
able to buy a new one, because my laptop is quite outdated already
today.

Does anybody know for how long will batteries for ThinkPad 600 series
notebooks be available on stock?
Does it make sence to buy an extra one right now?
