RE: [Thinkpad] 600E DVD DMA Problem

Hello,

This is starting to bring back bad memories 8-<.
Unfortunely it has been a while since I had this
type of problem so I forgot the horror.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=151911

My problem was after installing the right
driver the exclamation mark was still there
and it did not go away. As mentioned in
the article if windows has a problem with
the protected mode driver it will set
NOIDE in the registry and as long as NOIDE
is there it will never try using the protected
mode driver again. So follow the instructions
in the article and see if the exclaimation
mark goes away.

Yes, the exclamation mark is on one of the IDE controllers, the controller
that the hard disk is connected to. It seems the hard drive is missing from
the system properties control panel; I would guess that it's either because the
drive is partitioned to dual boot Win98 and Debian (unlikely), or because of
the exclamation mark IDE controller.

The C drive is running in DOS compatibility mode. DMA appears to be not set
(it wasn't set when I booted into Linux). I've updated my virus definitions
and am running a full scan now, though I highly doubt I'm infected. And I did
install the hot/warm swap driver.

Looks like you're dead right about my configuration. Would uninstalling the
hot/warm swap driver fix the situation?
