[Thinkpad] 12 gig Toshiba hdd, will it work on a TP 560e?

My brother-in-law recently bought a used thinkpad 560e and asked me to wipe
the drive and reinstall windows. It didn't have a floppy or cd-rom drive so
I hooked the drive up to my pc with a 2.5" to 3.5" converter. Unfortunately
I broke a pin on the original drive and had to buy a new drive. I was only
able to get a 12 gig Toshiba drive locally. I used Disk manager to set the
drive up but when hooking the drive back up to the thinkpad the drive would
not work at all. Do I have to use an IBM or Hotachi drive in order to get
this thing to work? I read on thinkpads.com that they got a 12 gig drive
working on a 560e.
