It's a function of your operating system. In Windows, look in the Power
Options control panel, Advanced page. While you're there, you can customize
the power button and lid-close action. I like to change the power button
into a Standby button, and have it do nothing when I close the lid.

Someone could pick the lock on your door, or break a window. Knowing that,
do you lock your doors and windows?
