[Thinkpad] tp570 and ultrabase in linux

Hi,
I've got this problem with my tp570: I'm using linux (slackware 8.1)
and I can only access the cd-rom and floppy drive if linux boots when
the thinkpad is attached to the ultrabase. If i connect the laptop to
the ultrabase when already running linux, it doesn't seem to recognise
the ultrabase. Any suggestions?
