[Thinkpad] DOS drivers for Travelstar 8E external drive?

I was wondering if there's any reason I couldn't use my Travelstar 8E
external PCMCIA drive with my 560X under DOS.
It seems that if I could load the DOS drivers it should work like the
external CD-ROM.
