Well I finally got the 3Com wireless card (WL-305)working with the solid
state 560x.
When I had tried the standard install from the CD it had installed an
application that popped up a neat little graphic that indicated if the
wireless link was connected and it actually worked.
The problem was that the application would crash the system every 15
minutes or so complaining about an Active X error.
This didn't surprise me since in the process if squeezing Win98 onto my
800 Mb solid state C: drive I had used WIN98 Lite and omitted Active X.
I was afraid that I would have to install Active X but it turns out that
there was an easier way.
The 3Com install CD has a utility called "disk factory" which makes
floppy disks for installations on computers without CD drives.
Disk factory starts by asking what you want to install and if you select
just the drivers it produces 2 floppy disks, one with drivers for NT and
one with drivers for Win9x and Win2K.
I updated the card drivers from the floppy and it has been working fine
since then.
On a different topic I need to get a bunch of CF to PCMCIA adapters
since I'm putting most of my data on CF cards. Does anyone know a cheap
source for adapters?
