I've just set up my Thinkpad 560x with a 3com wireless card (WL-305)
which seems to work with my Linksys BEFW11SF wireless router most of the
time.
At odd intervals the quick flash of the green LED (on the retractable
antenna) changes to a slow flash. When this happens I find that I can't
connect to the router (or anything else).
Randal mentioned a problem with mismatches in the algorithm for
"translating" the alphanumeric pass/keyinto Hexadecimal but I don't
think that's my problem since I've got WEP switched off (living on the
edge you know).
When I lose the wireless I can still reach the router through ethernet
on the Powerbook. If I open the router controls (in netscape on the
Powerbook) and switch wireless off then on the 3Com card will come back
to life.
If I try the Powerbook with the silver Wavelan card it reports no
available wireless network so it seems to be a problem with the router
side of the wireless connection.
Is there any way the 3Com card could be switching off the wireless
connection?
I don't think it's a hardware problem with the 560 or the 3Com card
since switching the wireless off and on from the Powerbook (without
doing anything to the 560 or the 3Com card) will fix the problem.
Am I missing anything?
