most of ibm's HDD's were produced in thailand..
others in hungary..
some in japan and maybe the UK..

now hitachi seems to have concentrated on thailand, so far..
hitachi also added an additional QC inspection to the
production line..
ibm's drives differed from toshiba's and others and were
not, to my knowledge, produced on any other lines..
i THINK i read someplace that hitachi will make drives in
china..
(seems like everything is now made in china!)

to say that all are made by one and are relabeled is, IMO,
simply not accurate..

it is true that IBM relabeled larger seagate drives and this
happens all the time, i suppose..
but to say that a travelstar, deskstar and others are all
the same is simply not true..

ask anyone who owned a deathstar drive..
