Someone recently responded to a question I had about making boot disks.
Anyway, they sent me the link to a site that has boot disk info for various
operating systems. I accidentally deleted the email & the site address.

I did actually try this before. To go to this BIOS. But it's much
different than any BIOS that I've seen before. It doesn't seem to
respond to the keyboard. It's got these rough vague icons you are
supposed to choose from. There are not text descriptions to identify
the options.
I think I would need a manual to follow it. I'll keep looking for one.
It's probably not in the software downloads section, I presume?

Both the small 4-pin and large 6-pin connectors have four signal lines. The larger six- pin connector has two additional lines for power and ground, respectively, to provide power to a plugged-in device. Devices with the small four-pin connector have to be self-powered. D: seems to claim 'invalid drive' also. Tried D, E, F, G, H... It doesn't seem to want to recognize the CD-ROM here. The system takes exactly 17 seconds to bootup from power on. And the floppy is inserted. Probably spins. But it doesn't seem to pay attention to it. I did copy the APMINST.INF file, as the link instructed. If I use that floppy in a desktop, the desktop does boot from the floppy. Not this laptop. Now the same company have produced XPlite and 2000lite: http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html which will allow you a central console to close those holes that MS leaves open by default in its XP and Windows 2000 Pro operating systems. Also, some Thinkpads have less power than desktops (though you'd hardly notice it in 2003) and might benefit from the streamlining that came with 98lite (though they don't make a big deal about that particular aspect in their promo material for 2000lite). I haven't used these new products, but did use the evaluation version of 98lite and was impressed. Informed reviews are on-topic! Disclaimer: No interest in this company except as a freeloader. Then reboot with the W98SE CD in the CD drive and the machine will BOOT from the CD and you can install W98. All of the W98SE CDs are bootable. If you don't have a copy of W98SE but are instead using an older copy of 98, then BOOT with the floppy in the drive and the CD in the machine. The machine will automatically seek the FIRST bootable device in the setup, which you've set as CD, FDD, HD1, and will BOOT from the floppy. Right now it appears that your machine is still booting to C: and not loading any of the PCMCIA or CD drivers. I called EZ Serve and they worked through it and said it was a standard problem....but I forget now just what the issue was but when just installed it didn't work. Wish I remembered more.
