Good Evening everyone:
I have a T-30 and would like to know if anyone would know where I could
purchase a battery pack which would hold a longer charge (EXTENDED BATTERY).
At present, the standard battery lasts for approximately 2 hours.  IBM
advertises 2.5 hours, however, that is true if you run the notebook
basically at it lowest levels.  "Good for advertisement, but not real world
use".  Anyway, a longer run time is what I'm looking for.

I've had two computers with two bad pixels on one and four on the other.
The first, I had for six months, the later I had for over a year.  Each,
with no change for as long as I owned them.  My current has one.  This one
I've had for two months so far.  I suspect there is nothing to worry about.

There are two forms of FireWire (IEEE-1394-1995 or FireWire-400) connectors.
Both the small 4-pin and large 6-pin connectors have four signal lines.
The larger six- pin connector has two additional lines for power and 
ground, respectively, to provide power to a plugged-in device.  Devices 
with the
small four-pin connector have to be self-powered.  More details can be found
at the trade association page for FireWire:  <http://www.1394ta.org/>
Most computer and electronics superstores sell 4-pin to 6-pin cables and
adapters, so it shouldn't pose much of a problem connecting a device with
one type of connector to the other.

According to http://www.buytravelconverter.com Ireland uses:
230 volts / 50 Hz for power and RJ-11 for telephone. Therefore,
you will need a plug converter in order to use your existing
IBM AC adapter in their AC sockets but no power converter should
be necessary as the IBM AC adapters usually work at both 110/220
at 50/60Hz. You will also not need a converter in order to use
your modem.

D: seems to claim 'invalid drive' also.
Tried D, E, F, G, H...
It doesn't seem to want to recognize the CD-ROM here.
The system takes exactly 17 seconds to bootup from power on. And the
floppy is inserted. Probably spins. But it doesn't seem to pay
attention to it.
I did copy the APMINST.INF file, as the link instructed.
If I use that floppy in a desktop, the desktop does boot from the
floppy. Not this laptop. Might you guys have any other advice?

Most of us know about 98lite.  Now the same company have 
produced XPlite and 2000lite:

which will allow you a central console to close those holes 
that MS leaves open by default in its XP and Windows 2000 Pro 
operating systems.  Also, some Thinkpads have less power than 
desktops (though you'd hardly notice it in 2003) and might 
benefit from the streamlining that came with 98lite (though 
they don't make a big deal about that particular aspect in 
their promo material for 2000lite).
I haven't used these new products, but did use the evaluation 
version of 98lite and was impressed.
Informed reviews are on-topic!

the new, improved software drops anything that isn't MIME type of
text/plain or a multipart/[alternative,mixed] (attachments); after that,
it runs through an html-to-text module.
the new software also has a patch to run spamassassin on every message

working out how that'll behave in practice yet.  i hate to send spam to

IMPORTANT! Go in to EZSetup (press and hold the F1 key while powering on the
system, release when the MEMCOUNT completes and you hear the POST beep) and
set
the BOOT order to CD, FDD, HD1.
Then reboot with the W98SE CD in the CD drive and the machine will BOOT from
the
CD and you can install W98.
All of the W98SE CDs are bootable.
If you don't have a copy of W98SE but are instead using an older copy of 98,
then BOOT with the floppy in the drive and the CD in the machine. The
machine
will automatically seek the FIRST bootable device in the setup, which you've
set
as CD, FDD, HD1, and will BOOT from the floppy.
Right now it appears that your machine is still booting to C: and not
loading
any of the PCMCIA or CD drivers.

Yes, each of the boxes are described with text beneath them. Left click on
the
box that says "Start up" (second from the RIGHT!). In the next display
select
"Power On" and and then set the BOOT order. Click "OK" to save your changes.
Then click on "Exit" to get back to the main screen.
