[Thinkpad] 600 and dock 3

Well the soggy sogga goes on, and on, and on! My wife's tp600 is working
with the thinkpad config utility working. In it I turned the dock on and
turned on the IDE controller on channel 3.
But, when I boot I get a 174 error. a look at the book [HMM] tells me a
drive is no good. setup shows the HDD in the dock grayed out. BUT! all
cables are good and the 3 drives I tried work in other PCs. Is there a
"Boot disk" to enable the dock IDE? the PCMCIA slots are there and working.

I ran fdisk to see if they were there but not formatted. I used them on
non ibm systems, never did fdisk and format on a IBM., I know on my TP i
had to do that before the tp would see the HDD.
