Hi all,
(1) FYI, on my ThinkPad 560X, I had installed a
no-brandname, Taiwanese-made 64MB EDO RAM and the
machine reports no problems recognising or using it.
(2) Those particular friends of mine with 560X's
*generally* report recognition problems using
brandname RAM modules - make what you will of this
detail.
(3) Memory-caching problems - sorry, cannot help you
here because I'm not aware of such problems on the
560X.
(4) My own personal opinion is that even midlevel
upgrades to 560X/Z is now no longer worthwhile. They
are good, solid machines on their own merits. However,
I would suggest getting the ThinkPad Enhanced Port
Replicator (the one with the USB port) to make your
life easier. And also a spare battery, if you can.
(5) FYI, in my own experience on the 560X, using a USB
2.0 external HDD case does not offer *practical*
performance advantage over a USB 1.1 external HDD
case. (Your kilometre'age may vary ...)
Kind regards from Hong Kong,
Robert
