I just tried this both ways, with an adapter to plug the disk
into a desktop computer it all looked great on the dekstop but
would not boot in the notebook. The various "fix" utilities
were no help either. Finding out this won't work was also a
major pain...
I wound up buying a pcmcia 16-bit scsi card, which I had to
order directly from Adaptec and at full list price (US$99) as
no one in their right mind still stocks stuff this old, and
restored the disk with it in the notebook computer - which
obviously works fine.
