One excellent resource is

http://www.pricewatch.com/

where you will find new Hitachi/IBM notebook&laptop
drives listed for $197 and up. You can easily find one
there for under $210. Several list members often have
good offerings, so your question is indeed worth posing
here as well. For example, I found a new IBM 20GB drive
last year for ~$60. I was thrilled to get "the last one",
as did several other list members! ;-) <sly/silly grin>

Even if you don't choose to buy from a pricewatch advertiser,
they provide an excellent price reference for the astute
shopper.

Many users who have tried the newest 5400rpm drives report
a significant speed increase. And the larger on-board HW disk
cache (8-16MB) can only help improve perceived disk speed.
I've not found any 80GB 5400 rpm drives yet (but soon for sure).
Perhaps you'd be willing to trade-off speed for disk size.
60GB drives are now available at 5400rpm with 8GB (and larger) cache.
A 9.5mm height drive should fit anywhere.
