[Thinkpad] X20 battery strangeness

I bought a new aftermarket battery for my X20
It worked great for around 10 cycles - the battery was rated at 38.88 WH,
the battery maximiser showed it as having a capacity of 44 Wh!!!
Last nite, I let it run down to about 4%, then popped it onto the UltraSlice
to charge.
OOPS
Won't recognize the battery
Won't charge the battery
Won't boot with the battery installed (ThinkLight comes on, machine starts
up, screen lights up and hard drive runs, but no data is displayed.
Remove the battery, all is normal!!!
Real strange, I guess the controller in the battery went bad and is sending
out strange signals?
