Yes, the X20 has not IR
At a show today, I saw an USB IR port, about the size of a thumb drive. SO I
guess that is not a real issue. It was $26.00
I have the X20. I don't see it as a primary PC (I am now using a T-22 and an
A30P), but for wireless browsing in the car (AirCard), at work, in the can
etc it is just superb. Small, light, battery lasts forever (if you get a
good one, see my previous post as to that). I was getting between 3 and 4
hours on a battery!
I think it is a great machine to have around, save your $$ and pick up a
used one. They are on Ebay for $399, and you can add the IBM service pack
for out of warranty machines. I don't see much difference in a P3 600 and
even a P4 for a machine used primarily for email and browsing (like I said,
for a second or backup machine, it's an ace).
Of course you don't really need the slice, a USB floppy will do if you even
need one (or a T series port rep and a 600 series floppy drive hint hint)
and XP is USB 2.0 plug and play, the USB 2.0 cards are under $30 all over,
if you really need an external drive just adapt a desktop drive in a box for
loading software etc.
Of course, if you really want a small portable DVD player, by all means get
the slice.
